For God's sake, let us sit upon the ground And tell sad stories of the death of kings; How some have been deposed; some slain in war, Some haunted by the ghosts they have deposed; Some poison'd by their wives: some sleeping kill'd; All murder'd: Richard II, Act III Sc 2 The Abbey Shakespeare Players are thrilled to present Richard II for the first time in their thirty-year history of performances in the majestic ruins of St Dogmael's Abbey. The play follows the final two years of King Richard's life as he fights to retain the crown in face of opposition led by Henry Bolingbroke, Duke of Hereford. Dark Ecology Exhibition by Seán Vicary

Dark Ecology Exhibition by Seán Vicary Saturday 12th August 2017 - Sunday 1st October Location: Oriel Mwldan

Seán Vicary’s work explores our relationship with the ‘natural’ world. Taking inspiration from personal (and wider) history, he uses a dilapidated military listening station in Pembrokeshire as the starting point to consider ideas of early warning systems in relation to our state of environmental precariousness. Deeply rooted in ideas of 'place', Vicary’s work often takes found objects and fragments from real life which are then digitally manipulated into animated assemblages and replaced into a new, virtual space. Working closely with musicians and sound artists, the results are evocative and successfully uncanny. Opening event with live music from Ceri Rhys Matthews - free entry 4pm 12 August www.seanvicary.com www.seanvicary.com

Once again this year there's a fantastic line up which is a diverse blend of jazz, blues and everything in between. For example if you like a bit of Dixieland music mixed with a bit of R&B then don’t miss the legendary frontman from Manfred Mann, Paul Jones with Digby Fairweather’s Half Dozen; Alternatively, for a bit of nostalgia, you will be surprised how many songs you know, The Chris Ingham Quartet featuring the music of Hoagy Carmichael will delight; For a bit of zany comedy you must see Bob Kerr’s Whoopee Band but they are not just fooling, these guys are really brilliant jazz musicians mixing Bonzo Dog, Spike Jones and Pythonesque humour. Elsewhere on the programme find The Red Stripe Band playing in the Bay Hotel, Goodwick, which should allow plenty of room for dancing. All of this plus a full programme of events in Ffwrn with too many acts to mention here, the usual quality events in our intimate jazz cafe, Peppers. TS Skirmisher and The Yacht Club as well as many of the pubs in the twin towns and slightly further afield. Expect a party atmosphere as the town comes to life with live music in the pubs, busking in the streets. This is carnival weekend in Fishguard and Aberjazz keeps it going for five days.
